For the first time in several years, Qatar Airlines is no longer the world’s best airline.
Its commitment to economy class comfort and maintaining comfortable leg room has earned Korean Air the position of Airline of the Year 2025.
AirlineRatings.com crowned Korean Air as ‘Airline of the Year’ in its 2025 World’s Best Airlines Awards published on February 8th.
AirlineRatings.com CEO, Sharon Petersen, said: “These awards are not a popularity contest or a people’s-choice award.”
“As airline experts, we conduct a meticulous assessment of each category to help travellers identify the best airlines for quality, value, and safety.”
She added: “In reviewing this year’s awards, we placed particular emphasis on Economy Class, as it is where most passengers travel.
“While many airlines have added a 10th seat per row on 777 aircraft and reduced seat pitch in economy to 31–32 inches (down from the previous 32–33 inches), Korean Air has chosen not to follow this trend.
“They have maintained their original seat configuration and a generous 33-34 inch seat pitch, offering passengers a more comfortable experience.”
According to the airline ratings platform, Air Korea offers the most spacious economy class seating of any airline in the world, which is extremely rare nowadays.
The airline also earned its position thanks to its thoughtful touches with its larger meal sizes and good in-flight entertainment which offers an improved experience to its passengers.
The CEO said that they regularly receive feedback about the lack of space in Economy Class, so this has become a crucial factor in selecting the winner of the year.
Qatar Airlines came in second followed by Air New Zealand.
